World on One Stage

This was an experience. Painting live at a show at Bedford University which celebrated different cultures. The brief was to capture what i "felt" during the 2 hours of performances - music, dance, drama etc - and my piece would be unveiled to the audience at the end of the show.

I started one and then packed it in and started again. Mostly the canvas was too big and i was being far to structured with it. On the second attempt I tried to just enjoy the experience and capture the vibrant colours and sounds that were coming from the stage, which I think I achieved.

Don't be afraid to put yourself on display.

Becca by the Sea

This is a birthday present for my dear friend Becca. I love making presents for people, because it gives me a subject matter and I already have an insight into their personality and what they might like to receive. This was a simple collaged background, recycling old envelopes, and then I put an illustration of her over the top. With a bit of textile detailing and some kind words, it is personalised just for her.

Wonderful people are hard to find. Make sure they know how special they are.

Even more sketchbook

Nothing more therapeutic than a wee bit of drawing in bed on a Sunday night. Loosen up first with a bit of free sketching, then attempt a more realistic portrait. Development to come on this one...

Sketchbook continued

Playing around with colours, textures and subject matters. This could be fun!

Sketchbook

I don't know why, but last night in bed I had an overwhelming urge to start a new sketchbook. I haven't used one for such a long time, and I was a little scared this morning when starting, but alas I made it through! I'm a big fan of making books from scratch, so making the pages and binding them together was the first step. Then I just played around with some paint and simple sketches and finished up with some artist research, followed on from my trip the the London Art Fair last weekend. Highly enjoyable.

Let's get back to basics.

Standing tall

My friend and I have a slightly odd obsession with wind turbines. I don't really know why, apart from the fact that they just look so graceful and serene and modern, next to the backdrop of the green and blue colours of nature.

Nature and Technology combined. Beautiful.

Birthday Flowers

Somebody very special bought me some very beautiful flowers for my birthday last week. This is the reflection of them against my bedroom wall.

Stunning what nature can do.
